Oxbridge English

I got a grade 7 in English lang and an 8 in literature. Is this okay for Oxbridge English or would the prefer those with 9s in their chosen subjects? I got 9, L2D*,888888,777 in total.

Oxbridge looks at applications holistically so you may be preferred to someone who got 9s

97,000 years ago I got in for Modern History. I only had a B in O Level History. But in those days all that mattered was Oxford's Entrance Exam. Pass that and the interviews, and you were in with an offer of EE at A level. Things have changed.

If your sixth form performance is good, the 7 may not be a deal breaker. Good luck!

Do you go to a top independent school? Or a state grammar or selective sixth form? You would be judged relative to the GCSE performance of your cohort. But as long as you achieve AAA or more in your A-Levels you might be invited for an interview.

OP, please pay no attention to thegeek888. He knows almost nothing about Oxford. He may perhaps have been to the city once on a tourist bus, and I'm not even sure of that.

You may be invited to an interview if you are predicted to obtain AAA, or the IB equivalent. You do not need achieved grades to apply. Good luck!

No I went to a really bad state school, I think average GCSE grade was a 4/5.

Then as long as you're predicted AAA, then you should be invited for an interview. 🙂

I would recommend applying to St. John's, Wadham, New, Univ, Balliol, Magdalen, ChristChurch, Exeter and Oriel.

So, do visit the Open Days next year.

OP, thegeek888 has no basis for making any recommendations about Oxford. He has not studied at Oxford, or applied to Oxford. He is a middle aged fantasist with no credentials. He is a troll.
