How important is attending summer schools for University applications

Hi,
May I know how important is attending summer schools for University applications?
My friends were applying for paid summer schools, but I won't be able to afford much.
I am not a first generation learner or from a low income background. So, not becoming eligible for the free summer schools.
We can spend some amount, but not like 2K, 3K which most of the schools ask for.
I have decent GCSE scores with 9s, 8s and 7s.
What are the options available for me to attend summer schools in Economics, Finance at affordable prices.
How important is it to attend summer schools to strengthen the university applications?
They’re not important by themselves at all.

They are only as strong as any other experience, (many of which are free - wider reading, watching lectures, MOOCs etc), when you actually reflect on the experience critically. IE. not just listing “I did XYZ”.

As above, 'I did this' will not in itself get you an offer. Its how you reflect on what you learnt, what you got out of it etc, and you can achieve the same as a 'residential' by doing Moocs etc over the summer - look at FutureLearn, Coursera, and Open Learn (and these are *free*).

The only exceptions are the Widening Participation residentials offered by many Unis that target those who meet their specific Contextual criteria - these are free and often lead to reduced grade offers or guaranteed offers. Examples -
Summer University 2026 | Outreach | Liverpool John Moores University
National Access Summer School - University of Birmingham
Residential summer schools | University of Surrey
etc
