DIY Christmas gift ideas for a student friendly budget

DIY gifts are great idea for Christmas time as students. They're very affordable and are a much more thoughtful gift since you made it yourself and can personalise it for your friends and family.

A Personalised Stocking

Making someone a personalised Christmas stocking with their name or initials is such a fun and personal Christmas present. My flat mate made one for all of us last year with a big V on mine and I loved it so much. If you know how to sew this one is great to make, however even if you don’t, hot glue could also work. It doesn’t matter if it’s functional it’s just something cute to hang up, it could even go on the tree if it’s small enough. It could even cost you nothing if you recycle some old fabric from things you don’t like anymore like some old Christmas pyjamas or a blanket that you’ve never used.

A Bauble

This could be made from anything; it could be a piece of card that you’ve folded into stars or even wood that you’ve carved. Origami could be your best friend this Christmas for a student friendly budget. Personally, I plan on crocheting some cute animals to make into baubles. I learnt how to do this at the knitting and crochet society we have here at Kingston. I highly recommend you join as it’s a great place for beginners and super cozy around this time of year to sit around crocheting with some new friends with a projected crackling fireplace on the walls (yes they really do this and it’s adorable).

Key chain

You could make this out of whatever materials you’d like but I plan on buy some shrink paper, which is very cheap, doodling some cute designs I think my friends might like and shrinking it down in the oven. A friend of mine once carved a little piece of wood into a star which isn’t too hard and I absolutely love that key chain they gave me It doesn’t matter if you’re a master carver, it’s the time and effort you put in.

Air dry clay trinkets

This is a super affordable gift idea as all you need is the clay and maybe some paint if you want to colour it. I plan on making some lighter holders as I think that’s something my friends will use but it could be anything like a small bowl for rings and jewellery or a cute figurine of something you think they’d like.

Hopefully these suggestions give you some affordable ideas for the holiday season.
What’s some DIY stuff you’ve made for Christmas before?
