Product design as a career?

Hello, I am currently a Year 11 student and I've been thinking ahead about uni options to tailor my alevels options towards it. I do Design & Technology as one of my GCSE subjects and i enjoy both the practical and theory part of it, when doing research I found that many uni's have product design as a course and it is quite similar to DT. However, I am unsure that once I leave uni with a product design degree whether it would be a long-lasting and well paying job depending on experience.
Alevels I'm picking:
- Maths
- Economics
- Physics or RS

I would really appreciate it if anyone who has insight into product designing as a career or knows other similar careers to DT would reply.
Thank you!

If you like designing and making things I could also recommend things like making/design for theater (sets, props, costumes) especially in terms of the making aspect things that’s closer to DT. I do theatre design at LIPA and love it but if your looking for making then the theatre technology course allows you to specialise in prop making and set construction. I will say if you’re going into design then purely academic a levels may not be the best choice, however there’s nothing stopping you from taking an extra year to do another course/a level. i did a foundation year at college in art and design, specialising in 3D which is similar to design and technology but with more of a design/art aspect and while i’d studied art and design there for 2 years already a lot of the students on the course had done a levels but wanted to do art courses at uni. I will say that most courses aren’t super similar to DT at school in terms of what you do but the foundations of it all are the same. You may also want to look at engineering etc. the UCAS website is great for looking at different jobs and what qualifications you can do.
