Aircraft mechanic career switch from nursing

Hello im a 29 year old ex-nurse. Planning on switching careers to be an aircraft mechanic. I vaguely know where to start but correct me if im wrong. Im planning to tale on aircraft maintenance and repair apprenticeships. Im looking at BA and also have applied for exeter college. Is the the right route or are there any other ways to be an aircraft mechanic.
