Which uni might be available for me if I get CCC or CCD?

Hi @Jake1036

What course are you looking to study?

The best thing to do is go on each university website course page (for your chosen subject) and check the entry requirements.

Often entry requirements will be in UCAS Points. You can work out what your grades are equivalent too in UCAS points via this link Calculate your UCAS Tariff points | UCAS

If you are not applying through UCAS it may be best to speak to someone at your current school about how the application process works.

I hope this makes sense and helps! Feel free to ask questions

Hi @Jake1036 👋

Hope you are well. Of course I can help with that! Thank you for including Essex in your choices! On our website, it states that for Bsc Economics degree, the entry requirements are a 5 (B) In GCSE Maths if you have that and ABB or 128 UCAS points in a level. It is good that you are aiming to achieve ABB so that is perfect for us.

If you end up getting a BBB or BBC, you may still have a chance to join us. We provide contextual offers sometimes so that will lower your entry requirements, when we make an offer to you, you will know about it and you can enquire more about it. We also don't look at just grades, we look at your application overall so if you do not meet your predicted grades or the entry requirements when applying, it does not mean we will reject you immediately, you may still have a chance and we will offer alternatives. It is not a guarantee that we will accept you but the admissions department do try and let people in with lower grades as we look at your overall application and not just the grades. Hope that helps 🙂

If youre applying with your predicted grades then you should have 1 or 2 choices above CCC (generally no higher than BBC really), 2-3 choices at CCC and 1 or 2 choices below CCC. If you realistically are not going to accept an offer from a uni then dont apply to it so if all the options youre considering are above your predicted grades then prepare for several rejections or having to work very hard to meet your offers. This may mean you will have to reapply next year with your achieved grades.

The admissions team will have no idea what a student is aiming for, they will only see predicted grades 4 grades lower than asking…

Hey there,
You’re in the right place asking this, because a lot of students feel unsure about where their grades realistically fit. I can’t comment on the universities you listed, but I can tell you what the options look like here at LSBU, since nearly all of our courses sit around BBC or BBB entry requirements.

LSBU is very used to supporting international students, and we look at the whole application rather than only the grades. If you’re aiming for something business related, science, social sciences or the creative subjects, BBC or BBB is a strong position for most of our programmes.

The LSBU Hub is the main building on our Southwark campus, and it’s where a lot of students spend their time. Inside you’ll find social study spaces, breakout areas, cafés, seminar rooms, specialist facilities and places where you can work quietly or with friends. It has a really open, modern feel to it, and people use it for everything from group projects to relaxing between classes. It’s also where you’ll find student support teams, so everything you need is in one place.
The area around LSBU is Elephant and Castle in central London. It has a lively, friendly atmosphere with loads of food spots, markets and places to hang out. Because it’s in Zone 1, you’re close to so much; the South Bank, Waterloo, London Bridge and Borough are all a short walk away. It’s a very diverse neighbourhood too, so students from all backgrounds feel at home straight away.

If you want a university where your grades fit, the community is welcoming and the campus gives you everything in one hub, LSBU is worth adding to your list while you decide.

You are always welcome to explore LSBU a bit more and get a real feel for what student life is like here. We actually have a virtual open day today from 12:30 to 1:30 pm where you can hear more about our courses and support. If you would prefer to see the campus in person you can book a tour https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days/campus-tours on a day that suits you and get a sense of the spaces you would be studying in. You can also chat to our current students https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat to hear honest experiences and get answers to any course questions you might have.

Look at taking an International Foundation Year and then progressing to the main Economics degree at the same UK Uni - the majority of CCC/BCC Unis are not worth spending your overseas ££££ on, and this strategy would get you into a 'better' Uni. Suggestions :
International Foundation Programme at University of Warwick
International Foundation Year - Queen Mary University of London
International Foundation Programme | Study at Bristol | University of Bristol
etc etc

I agree with McGinger. Exeter also offers a Foundation year geared to International students:
