Is Kent University any good for psychology?

Reply 1

Kent University has a solid reputation for its Psychology programme, offering a range of specialisations and a focus on research-led teaching. The course is well-structured, and the university provides access to good facilities and resources.

However, when considering Kent compared to other universities, think about what specifically draws you to Kent. Are there particular modules, research opportunities, or faculty expertise that stand out? It’s also worth looking at the university’s placement opportunities, student support services, and overall campus environment.

If you’re weighing your options, compare Kent’s offerings with those of other institutions you're considering. Look into factors like course content, university rankings, and student feedback to determine which would be the best fit for your academic and career goals. Ultimately, it’s about finding the right environment where you feel you can thrive in your studies.

Is Kent University any good for psychology?

Hi,
I hope you are well!😊

Psychology is one of my favourite subjects! I studied Social Sciences for my undergraduate degree at Kent and loved it, and I'm now doing my masters in Social Research Methods here too! 😊

My friend studies Psychology, and I have asked them to give me a few things about the course which they particularly enjoy to share with you! They include:

With an array of different modules in different areas of Psychology, the course allows students to develop a good understanding across the different areas but also find what parts of Psychology interest them most. There are modules in Research Methods, the Brain and Cognition, Forensics, Social Psychology, as well as Psychology in a Business context.

The research participation scheme- Students on the course get the chance to participate in lecturers, Master's, and PhD students' psychological research which gives students a really good opportunity to see how experiments happen and experience what its like to be a participant.

Forensic Psychology module- Students on this module learn about the use of Forensic psychology in the Criminal Justice System and will apply critical evaluation skills to the practices and the workings of the Justice System. Lecturers on this module have shared their real world examples from working in the probation system, giving students an insight into how the system works as well as what it might be like to work within the system.

Work experience- Students on the course are encouraged to find voluntary work and work experience placements in various areas of Psychology. Students are provided with support to find these opportunities, and the new timetabling structure allows students the time to fit such opportunities into their free time.

The course is BPS Accredited and students learn in many different ways including lectures, seminars, workshops, and in the Psychology labs too when taking part in and conducting experiments. You can take a tour of the facilities on our website.

I hope this gives you a little bit more of an insight into Psychology at Kent! Make sure to explore the modules on offer using our website, and hear what other students have to say about studying Psychology at Kent here😊

I thought I'd add a few things about what it's like to study at Kent too:

The campus is really green, and there are some nice walks around campus where you can spot lots of wildlife🐇🌿

Everything you need is all in one place. The library is at the centre of the campus and has a lovely cafe and lots of different seating for students to use when studying📚️

There are so many societies for students to join, and we have a cinema on campus too, as well as a gym and a nightclub. So there are plenty of opportunities for students to meet new friends!

We are also a short walk or bus ride away from Canterbury City centre, where there are lots of places to shop and eat, as well as some great places to meet with friends😊

I have used both the Careers Service and Student Support and Wellbeing, and have found both teams to be extremely helpful, so approachable, and on hand to support students throughout their studies!

Lastly, we have the Student Ambassador Scheme and part-time work which Kent Union offers which is great for students to earn some extra cash around their studies, and add some experience and skills to their CV's!

I hope this helps to give you an insight into what its like to study at Kent!😊 Please do ask us any questions, and we hope you consider studying with us in the future!🎓️

Have a lovely holiday break!💕

Best wishes,
Josie
