Veterinary interview for Nottingham

Hi everyone! I'm reapplying to veterinary now after resitting my bio and chem A-levels (used to have a B in bio and C in chem, now an A in bio and B in chem). I applied to UCLan standard course, Nottingham and RVC gateway courses, and vet bioscience (with access to vet med) at Harper Adams. I now have an interview for the Nottingham standard course on the 15th! That means I've been moved onto applying for the standard course instead of gateway- has this happened to anyone else? I was wondering if anyone had any advice for my interview?

What were your reasons for applying to the gateway course? It’s normally reserved for people with the wrong A level choices or for widening participation and attracting candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds. If you fulfill the subject requirements for the standard course they will not consider you for the gateway.

Hi @mossy-cord,

It's great to hear that you have applied to study with us. We do have a handy page with tips on applying to study vet med with us which has tips on interviews and prepping for them too, which you can take a look at here. You can also find more generic advice here.

If you do have any further questions, feel free to ask or get in touch with our admissions via here.

Hope this helps and best of luck,
^Zac

I technically have the AAB that Nottingham requires, but they specify that both chemistry and biology have to be A, so the B is in a third subject, but I have a B in chemistry and As in psychology and biology. I've heard of people being accepted with that sort of thing, but I thought I'd apply to gateway, which I do meet the widening participation criteria for, just to be safe.

Thanks for the resources, they're really useful! Do you know when I might hear anything else back from UCLan? I submitted the supplementary questionnaire last week.

I have the same grades and applied to the normal course so I don’t think you need As in both bio and chem

Interesting! I just double checked and the course info on the uni website says: "A in biology (or human biology) and chemistry. B in a third subject". I guess they're willing to consider people with an AAB though!

I think it’s because I meet the widening participation criteria but it is confusing because I applied to Surrey not realising that they don’t do contextual offers for bio or chem so got immediately rejected

Maybe, that's disappointing about surrey though. Where else did you apply if you don't mind me asking?

Just had an interview offer for Ulan five year! I don’t suppose anyone knows if that means I can’t get one for the gateway as I applied to both (was suggested to by their summer school staff)? Or if that one interview counts for both?
