Accommodation Sheff/Brums

Could anybody at UoSheffield or UoBirmingham give their opinions on accommodation options, being an offer holder I have thoroughly read through all their accommodation advice but I’d love to hear unsolicited general advice from previous or current students, thins such as distance from nearest shops, clubs/nightlife, as well as campus (specifically the business areas but not limited) are all things that would be useful as well as which are not super expensive but still well presented to live in. Thank you for the advice!

For uob it depends. If ur not an a2b student then id reccommend either battery park or oak Brooke park accom in selly oak. It's the quieter village compared to the Vale but you have the benefit of 2 train stations (uni and selly) being within a 10 min walk, have the high street with all the shops like aldi, sainsburys local, 2 tesco expresses + subway, Domino's, 3 pubs etc and if you go closer to battery park accom then you have the 2 retail parks with M&S, sainsburys, KFC, mcdonalds, food warehouse etc. The high street in selly also has circo which is the student only club that many go to especially 1st years, as well as a karaoke bar further down. Selly oak is often where most students end up in 2nd year onwards anyway as its where all the housing is so you'll have a better idea of where to get a house in selly.

I’m a current/recent UoB student, so can mainly speak for Birmingham 😊
If you’re studying Business, Selly Oak is by far the most popular area. It’s about a 10–15 min walk to campus, has loads of supermarkets (Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Tesco), takeaways and pubs, and it’s cheaper than city centre living. It’s not fancy, but very convenient and social.
For uni halls, The Vale is well-presented and green, and still walkable to the Business School (around 15–20 mins). It’s a bit more expensive, but nicer than most first-year halls and very student-friendly. Pritchatts Park is closer to the Business School and quieter, usually slightly cheaper than The Vale.
If you care about nightlife, living near Selly Oak station or along the train line is ideal it’s 10 mins by train to New Street, so clubs and bars in the city centre are super easy to get to.

Im an accounting student in the business school and I reckon ive only had 2 seminars in the business school and thats it 🤣 im usually in physics, engineering, arts or education for my lectures and seminars. Ive stopped recommending accoms based on course as an accom ambassador now unless ur in the med school simply because everyone is just all over the place!

I agree selly oak is great tho, so many amenities and good transport links.
