UoR Unconditional Offers

I’m looking at applying for Business and Management (Marketing) at Uni of Reading for 2026. I have received a contextual, conditional offer of BBC. My predicted grades are AAB and I was wondering if at any point my offer could potentially become unconditional.

If this is the case, should I wait until it is before I apply?

I don't quite understand what you mean. To get an offer you need to have applied already. So you have either already applied and gotten an offer, or you haven't applied, and do not have an offer.

In any case unconditional offers are virtually only reserved for those with achieved grades. Which means that for you to get one you'd need to go through clearing (bad idea) or take a gap year (and while I'm a big fan of gap years, taking one purely because you want an unconditional offer is an extremely poor idea). And if you already hold a conditional offer, it will only "switch" to an "unconditional" one come results day.

The Office for Students essentially banned U offers for those still taking A levels several years ago. The only variation of this I have heard of this more recently is some 'low level and getting desperate' Unis switching Firm C offers to U literally a few days before Results Day - I assume so that they identify all the courses they would have to put into Clearing. And I would not put Reading anywhere near that group of Unis! Any course asking for AA grades means its competitive - Reading's Business School is excellent - so you really do need to get any ideas of 'easy ride' out of your head, either as an applicant or as a student actually at Reading.

My sibling is applying this round. They are definitely seeing more unconditional offers among their friend group this year. Yes, it tends to be undersubscribed courses and lower ranked unis, but the practice seems on the increase again.

Hey!

Congratulations on the contextual offer for Business and Management (Marketing)!
To answer your question: Reading doesn’t usually change conditional offers to unconditional ones based on predicted grades, even if you’re predicted higher. Offers only become unconditional once you’ve actually got your final grades.
So no, there’s no need to wait before applying. Your conditional offer won’t change by delaying, and your BBC contextual offer is already a really positive one.
Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask 😊
