What could you gain from university?

Thinking about whether university is right for you? We asked our students what they’ve gained most from their time at university, and here’s what they said:

1. Business and industry connections
Many students valued the links they made with professionals during their course. These connections have helped with placements, networking, and future careers.

2. Real-life and practical skills
From working in labs with lung cancer cells to hands-on projects, students have gained experience that goes beyond textbooks.

3. Technical skills and software
Lecturers introduced tools like eye-tracking and virtual reality in psychology, giving students skills that are directly applicable in research and the workplace.

4. Confidence and independence
Living and studying away from home, managing deadlines, and presenting work helped students become more self-assured and independent.

5. Community
Students highlighted the friendships, clubs, and societies they joined. The social side of university provided a sense of belonging and support.

University isn’t just about lecturers, it’s about growing your skills, your confidence and your network. Want to know more about life at University of Staffordshire and what you can gain?
