uni choices for psychology

im trying to decide on my final 2 choices for unis - i have already decided on leeds, sheffield and liverpool. i am predicted abc but my form tutor raised this to aaa for ucas. i need some unis with lower entry requirements but im struggling to find them for psychology and i dont know if i should just put ones down even if i dont really like them.

If you already realise that you wont get anywhere near AAA next August, then applying for higher grade RG Unis, who are unlikely to need to be charitable on Results Day, is a bit daft. More realistic choices would be UEA (ABB), Oxford Brookes (BBB), Leicester (BBB) etc.

Hey there,

It’s completely normal to feel stuck when choosing your final two, especially when Psychology courses can vary a lot and the entry grades feel tight. If you’re looking for options with lower requirements but still want a place that feels right for you, LSBU could be a good fit to consider while you’re weighing things up.

For Psychology at LSBU, the typical entry requirement is around 112 UCAS points (BBC), which sits closer to your original predicted grades. We also look at the whole application, not just the numbers, so your personal statement and interest in the subject really matter. A lot of students choose LSBU because the course is practical and research focused, and you get access to specialist labs and support that helps you feel more confident academically.

The student community here is also very friendly and diverse, which makes it easier to settle in if you’re unsure at first. You don’t need to put down universities you aren’t comfortable with. It’s better to choose places where you can picture yourself learning and growing, even if you’re keeping your options open at the same time.

You are always welcome to explore LSBU a bit more and get a real feel for what student life is like here. We actually have a virtual open day today from 12:30 to 1:30 pm where you can hear more about our courses and support. If you would prefer to see the campus in person you can book a tour https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days/campus-tours on a day that suits you and get a sense of the spaces you would be studying in. You can also chat to our current students https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat to hear honest experiences and get answers to any course questions you might have.

Hi there!

It's exciting that you're considering Psychology, best of luck to you! Love that you are interested in studying in Liverpool as well, it's an amazing city to be a student!

We offer a wide range of Psychology degrees at Liverpool Hope University. You can study it as a Single Honours BSc, or a Combined Honours BA (for example, Psychology and Criminology is a popular one, but you can even do Psychology and Musical Theatre! Our full list of combinations can be found here.)

We also offer courses called Psychology in Education and Psychology in Business if they are of interest to you.

The entry requirements tend to be around 120 UCAS points (BBB) as well as having GCSE Maths, however they drop to BBC if you are doing it as a combined course. Let me know if you have any questions, and you can book a campus tour here if you want to look around.

Have a lovely day 🙂

1 or 2 at AAB-ABB OR more than 120 ucas points
2-3 at BBB-BBC OR 120 ucas points
1 or 2 lower than BBC OR less than 120 ucas points

If Leeds is AAA, Sheffield is AAB, and Liverpool is ABB. I would suggest going for universities of a similar calibre, such as Southampton AAB, as some top unis are known to be a bit more lenient on results day. My advice would be to aim high and continue working towards achieving those grades.

Hi @emily468,

Some great options and advice already! We do also have a psychology course here at the University of Lancashire. Our Psychology degrees are accredited by the British Psychological Society. This means you can gain Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC).

You can choose to complete a placement year, gaining experience to prepare you for the workplace. Employability is central to the course, with real-world assessments and embedded work experience in your final year.

Our psychology course has also come 1st in the North West for career prospects- Guardian University Guide 2026

You can find more about our psychology course including modules, entry requirements and much more such as explore the facilities here. Feel free to ask any questions 🙂

Best wishes, ^Zac
