LSE Econ and politics what are my chances?

Just wanted to know whether im competitive enough or not? Pls be honest!

GCSES: 9999999988

A level predicted: A*A*A but the A in maths (I think this disadvantages me). Other in Econ and politics. A predicted in EPQ related to the course

PS: epq, summer school scholarship, politics conference, Oxford essay competition, Cambridge study seminars, chair for MUN society, international MUN conference, work experience at local council, book on democracy and lse lecture on economic nationalism.

I have already applied but would be good to get some feedback?

Also applied to Warwick, bath, Exeter and York, what are my chances of getting these?

LSE does not expect A*s in everything, so you look competitive enough. No one here knows whether your personal statement is LSE standard or not, but hopefully you haven't fallen into the trap of 'listing' your activities instead of talking about what you learned from them.

And yes, you are a perfectly fine applicant for your other choices too.

Im a 2nd year PolEcon student at LSE; happy to share what my predicteds were.

GCSE: 99999988886
A level predicteds: A*A*A*

Most students in my cohort applied with 3/4 A* predicted, but this is not necessary. Some have had predicted AAA and still received offers.

Hey, can you PM me please, I’d like to ask if you could review my personal statement as I’m not sure if it has enough politics in it compared to economics? Would really appreciate it!

Hi @collossalelf3904,

From an Exeter student ambassador perspective, your profile is very strong overall. Your GCSEs are excellent and well above what Exeter typically expects. Predicted AAA is also strong, and having the A in Maths rather than an A* is not a deal-breaker at Exeter for Politics/Econ-type courses. Exeter does not require an A* in Maths for these courses in the way some other universities might, and admissions look at your application holistically, not just one grade in isolation.
Your supercurriculars are actually one of the strongest parts of your application. Things like the EPQ linked to the course, summer school scholarship, essay competitions, MUN leadership, conferences, and relevant work experience are exactly the kind of academic engagement Exeter values. It shows genuine interest, independent thinking, and commitment beyond the classroom - which really matters.

For Exeter specifically, applicants with slightly less perfect grade profiles than yours receive offers every year, especially when they have strong personal statements and academic engagement like you do. There are never guarantees with competitive courses, but based on what you’ve shared, Exeter is a very realistic choice, not an aspirational one.

At this point, there’s honestly nothing obvious you’re “missing”. You’ve done what you can, and Exeter is exactly the kind of university where an application like yours fits well. Try not to overthink it now - you’ve put together a strong case.

Hope this helps 🙂
