the usual guidance is to apply for one aspirational choice, three that are pretty stable, and then one choice that is very safe. if you want to apply to exeter, go for it! it's worth a shot, but just stay open-minded when you receive your offers

Hi @maharana,

Honestly, yes, it can still be worth applying to Exeter, even with predicted ABC, especially if Exeter is somewhere you really want to go. Predicted grades matter, but they aren’t the only thing admissions look at. If the C is in a subject that isn’t crucial for the course, or if you feel there’s genuine room for improvement, that can work in your favour. Lots of students apply slightly under the typical offer range and still get considered.

Exeter also looks at the bigger picture. Things like your GCSEs, personal statement, EPQ (if you’re doing one), and whether you’re eligible for a contextual offer all play a role. If you do meet contextual criteria, the grade requirements can come down, which makes a big difference.

That said, I want to be honest without being discouraging - Exeter is competitive, so it’s not a guaranteed yes. I’d see it as a “reach but realistic” choice rather than a safe one. As long as you balance your UCAS choices with some options where your grades are well within the requirements, applying to Exeter makes sense.

If you can, it’s also really worth having a chat with your teachers to see whether your predicted grades could improve, especially the C. Even small changes can help a lot.

If Exeter is a place you can really picture yourself at, I wouldn’t let predicted grades alone stop you from applying. The worst outcome is a no; the best is an offer you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Sorry to not be more helpful 🙂
