Should I bother getting into Medicine?

Hey I'm currently a 2nd year BA student at UCL and wanted to do another degree after uni. I'm probably gonna have to take Chemistry A-Level and retake Biology which I got a B in (A*BBC) and I have pretty crappy GCSES (776666665) 5 in Chemistry. Considering my grades are pretty crappy and I'll be a mature student and a retake student, is it worth a shot? I normally wouldn't assume so or even bother asking but I was wondering if it'd be any different considering I'd be applying as a contextual and mature student who would have completed a degree.

I assume that you're going for graduate entry Medicine, which is a different route to the standard undergraduate degree? GCSEs are actually super irrelevant for that, in most medical schools (I can only think of a single graduate medical school that bothers to check GCSEs, the rest couldn't care any less). You also may not need to resit your A-level Biology and Chemistry, because many med schools will not look at A-levels, or be more lenient with the grades, so resitting them may not even make much sense (but it might - up to you to do your research on the matter). The only real limiting factor you've mentioned in your post is the fact you're doing a BA, which will sadly limit your options a lot, but you'll still be able to apply to some med schools. As long as you meet the published entry requirements, for most places it just boils down to the entrance exam performance, which will be GAMSAT or UCAT. Both of these you sit just the one time and that result is valid for all medical schools during that year's admissions cycle. GAMSAT is more of a handful than the UCAT but you might want to take it in order to open up your medical school options.

Apologies for bombarding you with info, but hopefully it is overall good news for you. I personally think that if you want to pursue Medicine, you should try to. It's not particularly easy to apply but I personally find that, I want to do it so badly I will go to any lengths necessary, because to give up on Medicine is no choice at all. Food for thought anyway. Good luck!

P.S.: have a look at https://www.medschools.ac.uk/for-students/applying-to-medical-school/entry-requirements/?course_type=graduate-entry-medicine to see the entry requirements of graduate medical schools
