Student life in Bristol

I’m often asked what student life is like in Bristol, especially as a University of Law student, so I thought I’d share a bit about my own experience of the city and campus.

The University of Law’s Bristol campus is in a brilliant spot, giving you easy access to transport, accommodation, food, and shopping. It’s a short walk from Temple Meads station, so you’re right in the city's heart.

The campus itself is small, as it is only one building, bringing a welcoming and modern feel. There’s a little indoor café with plenty of seating, a social space with vending machines, a piano, and a foosball table if you need a break. You’ll also find classroom-style seminar and lecture spaces and a library with quiet study areas and desktops. Furthermore, there are loads of support available, from employability guidance and wellbeing services to mooting opportunities and even the option to set up your own society. Student Information often runs activities, like quizzes or socials, to encourage everyone to get involved.

Outside of the campus, Bristol has endless spots to explore. St Nick’s Market and Corn Street are just around the corner, always buzzing with coffee stalls and food places, which is perfect for a bite between lectures. Gloucester Road is another student favourite and one of Europe's longest stretches of independent shops. Down by the harbourside, the Arnolfini Café Bar is an artsy option for lunch or study breaks. And of course, there’s a Wetherspoons across the road, which pretty much becomes a default student hangout when the day’s lectures have finished.

Eating on a budget is no problem. Three Brothers Burgers do a £6 deal before 5 pm, Café Kino is a vegan favourite, Pizza on the Park offers a student discount, and The Canteen combines veggie food with live music. If you’re in a rush, St Nick’s Market always has affordable, tasty street food from around the world.

Nights out in Bristol never disappoint. You’ve got The Fleece and the O2 Academy for live gigs, Thekla, the nightclub on a boat and home of its iconic Thursday student nights, plus OMG Bar and Nightclub, which is known for cheap drinks, drag queen-run challenges, and a fun student crowd. In addition, Bristol is artist Banksy’s hometown; therefore, around the city, you’ll see his graffiti, making Bristol a bit like an outdoor art gallery.

Overall, student life at ULaw Bristol is fantastic, providing a good mix of study spaces and a city full of character, opportunity, culture, and student budget-friendly fun.
