His friend and him were talking and my topic came and tilly said oh I think she looks calm

i see it as a causal compliment. wouldn't read much into it i guess

I am not going to pretend to be entirely up to date with the slang that kids use nowadays, but that's a compliment isn't it?

I thought it was offensive since klm means acceptable / tolerable

When we say food is calm I thought it meant that

yeah.. it does depend on the context. if someone called me that i wouldnt care lol. i guess it depends on whether you find being acceptable offensive, doesn't feel like an outright insult to me

I think you are overthinking it. Calm just means fine. He isn't really making an insult or a compliment, he basically is saying you look fine or ok, I feel its more of an casual comment to move on the conversation.
