Support for UK nationals and their family members living in the EEA

The question concerns a student who holds an EU nationality (i.e. not British) but is a child of a UK citizen. Student and parents have been living continuously in an EU country for many years prior to Brexit and the student has already received offers from UK universities with home fees under the Brexit temporary offer for "UK citizens and their families living in Europe". This question pertains to Student Finance England.

On the UK government site, it states:

UK nationals and their family members living in the EEA or Switzerland on 31 December 2020 are generally eligible for home fee status, tuition fee and maintenance support from Student Finance England for courses starting on or after 1 August 2021 and before 1 January 2028, if they meet all the following conditions:

they were living in the EEA or Switzerland on 31 December 2020 (or have moved back to the UK immediately after living in the EEA or Switzerland)

they have lived in the EEA, Switzerland, the UK or Gibraltar for at least the last 3 years

they have lived continuously in the EEA, Switzerland, the UK or Gibraltar between 31 December 2020 and the start of the course

Since the student has met all of these conditions, can you please clarify if she would be eligible for tuition fee and maintenance support in England and, if so, what the process is to go about getting this for a course beginning in September 2026.

Thank you!

Hi chiapet,

Yes, they would be eligible if they meet that criteria as the family member of the UK national. They would just login to their account or create an account if they haven't done so previously and they would apply for their undergraduate support there. The would upload their share code and family members ID with their birth certificate to show their relationship.
