How imporant is attendance for 6th form applications?

My attendance is quite bad due to mental health issues. However, due to not being diagnosed with anything, my school doesn't seem to perceive it as such. I'm currently applying to sixth forms/colleges and worried that my bad attendance will lead to me being denied at most of them. Grades wise, I either didn't do the tests or got good grades (6+) but my attendance was genuinely so bad that I'm worrying now.

Sixth forms can have issues with this because they will concerned about your ‘fitness to study’. If your predicted grades dont meet their standards or they consider attendance data in admissions under behavioural concerns then you may not get an offer for a place there unless your reference or similar has stated the reason for absence. Have you contacted the sixth forms about the issues youre having?

I have mentioned mental health issues in applications where it was an option, but that's about it. I haven't had any interviews yet so that's as much as I've done in that regard.

attendance is quite important, but if you have majority of 9s and 8s , i think it can the grades can override. if not, you probably need clear reasoning why your attendance is low

How bad are we talking here for year 11?
Do you have any evidence from a gp or anything?
Do you think these issues will persist at sixth form?

Im currently on a CAMHS waiting list, but I feel that my current school is bad for my mental health due to past experiences, so changing environment (which I want to do for sixth form) would definitely help.

Glad to hear that 🙂 If you have any evidence of being on the waitlist then id suggest using that if you contact a prospective sixth form.

Some will let you in with no issue, those with higher reputation for academics can be a bit tighter with these things

it's normally private schools with fees that tend to be stricter
