BTEC grades for Biomed courses?

Hi! I'm applying for Biomedical Science and Biological Science at several unis like NTU, DMU, Northampton, and Birmingham City. I'm studying BTEC Applied Science and BTEC Health & Social Care—can anyone share what grades are usually needed for an offer or some tips from their application experiences? 😊

Hi there,

Thank you for considering studying with us! Typical grade we are looking for in BTEC Applied Science is DMM: Biomedical Science BSc (Hons) - with optional placement year

However, if you feel like you might not get the exact grade I would advise you to still apply! Our applications are reviewed on the individual basis and you might be offered a lower tariff due to some of your extra curriculum activities, great personal statement and lots of other circumstances

And the last but not the least, we are happy to invite you to our next Open Day on 7th February! It's a great opportunity to have a look around the campus, speak to students and academics, and learn more about what we offer: Open Days - De Montfort University

Let me know if you have any questions,

Hi @Rsthakiid,

It's great to hear you're interested in Biomedical Science and Biological Science!

A typical offer for these courses at NTU will be between 104-120 UCAS tariff points. I'd recommend using the UCAS Tariff Points Calculator to explore what grades you may need to achieve to meet any offers.

One thing I'd recommend, especially with BTEC subjects, is confirming the full title of the course you're studying currently, as there can be a range of different providers and different levels (such as National Certificate and National Diploma) that can change the amount of points a qualification is equivalent to.

With science courses, especially, there can often be specific subject requirements as part of any offer. For Biomedical Science and Biological Science, we require a Biology A-Level equivalent, but I can confirm that most BTEC Applied Science courses meet this requirement for NTU. Double-check with the admissions teams for all of the universities you apply to, as this can vary between institutions.

Another tip I'd give is to remember to include details about any practical experience you've had - whether this has been lab experience as part of your course or any field work you've taken part in. This is always a plus for applications for science courses. Moreover, remember to share your passion for the subject!

I'd also agree with Ilya above - even if you're unsure about meeting any requirements, you should still apply! The majority of universities consider a wide range of factors when deciding to make an offer, and often, students can surprise themselves in August when their final grades are confirmed.

We're wishing you all the best in your applications. If you have any questions, do feel free to get in touch with us at NTU!

Good afternoon,

Choosing a university depends on what you want from your university experience. Every student wants something slightly different, such as a lecture-style approach or the option of exams versus no exams. I always recommend deciding what you want from your university and writing a list. You can compare the two universities to your own criteria; this means the university will be the best fit for you.

The Whatuni website is good for finding a Course, as it has a full and comprehensive list with reviews. Similarly, the UCAS website has tips on comparing undergraduate courses and universities, which is a great way to narrow down your options.

The University of Reading assesses every application on an individual merit basis, ensuring that every student's application is considered; this is the contextual offers scheme. However, this does not mean that every student receives an offer from the university.

The University of Reading offers an ambassador scheme, allowing prospective students to connect with current students. You can find more information here.

All the best,
