In Year 7, my grandfather — who raised me for ten years and was my primary caregiver — was diagnosed with terminal cancer. His treatment included chemotherapy, lung surgery, and ongoing oxygen and medication support. Although he lived in China and I could not provide direct practical care, the emotional impact of his illness was continuous and significant. I felt a strong cultural and family expectation to keep the situation private, so my school was not informed at the time.
This long-term emotional stress continued throughout my secondary education, including Year 11 during my GCSE preparation. The worry and responsibility I carried for my grandfather affected my focus, consistency in revision, and overall academic performance, contributing to the need to resit several GCSEs.
Evidence:
• Certified English translations of my grandfather’s medical records showing the timeline and severity of his illness.
• Referee statement confirming I disclosed the situation to them and linking it to academic challenges.
• Contemporaneous evidence in the form of daily video calls and check-ins via WeChat, demonstrating ongoing emotional concern.
Idk if these are enough to be a valid and relevant ecf for top med unis when it comes they come to question my 4 GCSE results which went from 6s to 8 and 9s
Any suggestions would help!
