Should i learn manual or automatic for a car licence?

I’ve never driven a manual car and my family do not have one so i cannot learn outside of lessons. I’m taking my test in mid- February time- and I don't know if I have time to learn a manual car? I know the lessons would cost the same, ish, but I’d definitely take less automatic lessons.

On the other hand, manual cars licenses allow me to drive both automatic and manual and i really do not want to be asked to re-take any test in the future.

BUT the future is automatic cars.

So i dont know what to do

Do you have any specific career ambitions?

I would say do a manual test because it will give you more choice in what car you can drive once you have passed

For anyone with any learn concerns always go automatic. If you struggle to concentrate on more than one thing at a time , manual driving is much harder.
If that's not a problem for you then a manual licence gives much more freedom.
However, driving an automatic is much easier.
Depends on you entirely .

Stick with manual. For the flexibility in what you can drive in the future. As well as the boost to you self esteem from you taking the more challenging path and succeeding.

Depending on what cars your family has as well as their needs to use them, you may be looking at buying yourself a car once you've passed your test. In which case you could buy that car now. And make it a manual. Something that's under £2000 due to the age of the car and it having a tiny engine, to keep insurance costs down.

Manual vehicles will disappear in the near future because electric vehicles don't need gearboxes and even HGVs are all automatic now as are an increasing number of vans and the like. Most modern vehicles don't even have manual handbrakes now.

Unless you are struggling or anything, id say learn manual if possible.

HGV's aren't all automatic now.
Automatic are a lot more common. But they arent all automatic at all.
BTW i work at a national distribution centre and deal with our own HGV drivers every day (as well as drivers from the other hauliers that come in. My dad is also a HGV driver.
