potentially changing course after receiving offers?

Hello,

I’m in year 13 and I’ve applied for biomedical science and received 4/5 offers. However after submitting my application, I realised I wanted to do radiography instead after rethinking my decision. Will it be possible for me to switch courses? Is this too late or irrational? It’s really stressing me out and does this look bad on me to do?:frown:

There is the option to go through clearing or taking a gap year, but switching to radiology at this point in the year is more complicated because it is a subject you generally have to interview for. You also wrote your personal statement for biomedical science, which may not demonstrate the skills universities are looking for.

Universities will also want to know why your choice of course has changed. I was in a similar position in year 13, where I had applied for biology but decided I want do paramedic science instead. I ended up doing a year of my biology degree, and have taken a gap year this year in order to pursue this. I would make sure you don't rush the decision, and don't be afraid to take a gap year if you need it.

If the Unis that you have already applied to offer the course you want, you need to contact them and ask about the possibility of a course switch. Do this now, before the Christmas break. You cannot switch University choices at this stage.

Be aware that Radiography is very competitive and without appropriate work-experience your chances of an offer are very low. It may be a better strategy to consider cancelling your UCAS application now or in August, and taking a gap-year to get the work-experience you need to make a realistic application for Radiography.
