Hi! Is anyone who is experienced in monologue auditions able to tell me whether it is possible to find a 5-minute monologue? I have applied to a private college (the degree is validated by a uni but it's not mainstream) for a combined course with Performing Arts, and with my interview I have been asked to bring simply "a 5-minute monologue of my choosing" - no other details. To me this seems quite long - I would have expected an audition monologue to be 2-3 minutes long, as with most drama schools and degrees.
So basically I need to find out a) whether any monologues that long exist and are suitable for an audition and b) whether I should interpret this as literally around 300 seconds long or meaning "roughly" 5 minutes, as in it could be your standard 3 minute monologue.
I have emailed for clarification regarding whether it needs to be from a published text and whether I could find out some examples of what has been used in the past as a guideline, saying my drama teacher has ideas but they aren't long enough.
Can anyone help me to make sense of this? Admittedly I do not have much experience with audition requirements and might be misunderstanding from lack of experience, but I am determined to at least try the audition as a useful experience!
