Oxford Interview Process Questions

Hi all!

I'm an American student, and so I'm not as familiar with the Oxford application process.

I initially applied to Exeter for Classics and English. I recieved an invite to interview for Classics only. I had 2 interviews with Exeter, and a third with the language faculty. I just got notified of an additional interview at St. Hughs.

I'm wondering if this means that Exeter is no longer considering my application. I also wonder how common is it for the course you are offered to interview for to be different from the course you applied for. Is there any way for me to end up as Classics and English or has that ship sailed?

@elilast would have a better idea than me (I studied music rather than Classics!) about this. Some subjects routinely offer a second interview at a different college - so your being interviewed by St Hugh's doesn't necessarily mean that Exeter are no longer considering you.

I'd imagine that, since you have not been invited for any English interviews, that you are not being considered for a joint honours course. This does sometimes happen with joint honours courses (that they only consider you for one of the two subjects you've applied for).

Try not to overthink things, and best of luck! :h:

Cheers for the @.

@lhess6310 Yes, if you only received an invite for Classics I imagine you are only being considered for Classics. But I suggest just emailing your college to check if you’re unsure. It’s not uncommon for this to happen with joint honours, eg I know someone who applied for German and History but ended up only being accepted for German.

As TLG said, the extra interview at St Hughs doesn’t necessarily mean anything, it might just be random.

Best of luck with everything!
