Uni of Sheffield or Uni of Leeds for student life?

I’ll be doing English lit. Both courses are good. I’m also interested in Journalism. Both unis have excellent student media. Both pretty affordable. But which one has the better student life?

Additional info: I’m not into D&B or the drugs scene which Leeds is known for. More into Sheffield's Indie rock, but there’s bound to be indie clubs in Leeds.

The University of Sheffield is the best university for Student Life in the UK. I'm a current Student Sheffield and applying here was by far the best decision I've ever made

Nice. Could you tell me what it is about the student life that you like so much? Nightlife, community, societies?
Leeds has Key Club
Sheffield has Corporation

Corp is better than Key Club, but as a city Leeds is better than Sheffield

Societies, sense of community, making friends is very easy and I feel safe in Sheffield even at night

Hi!

Sheffield has a fantastic student life, even better than I initially anticipated. There are a range of options depending on your personal preference. A good base point is often West Street, where there are plenty of bars; some are quieter, while others play lots of music and involve a lot of dancing. My personal favourite is Bierkeller, as you can dance on benches and drink from steins, often a safe option for a guaranteed great night out.

The Students Union itself has BarOne, a restaurant open throughout the day, and a hotspot before going into the on-site club, the Foundry. The Foundry hosts a variety of club nights, some popular ones include: Poptarts every Saturday, Roar every Wednesday (sports club night), and Soul Jam once a month on Thursday. I will include a link so you can see the extensive options - LINK, including music events and comedy nights, which are also great for sober activities. I have also linked to the Students' Union, which includes lots of information on societies, events, film nights, etc. - Student Union

The options are endless. I hope this helps 😄

Not sure if you're a man or woman but I feel a lot safer as a girl in Sheffield than I did on nights out at Leeds. It does make a difference. If you're not a girl, it's still something to take into account. Sheffield is the nicest city in the UK in my opinion and is so broad in what it offers. If you like nature at all, the Sheffield will always take the top spot (10 mins to the peak district!!)
In terms of night life, West street is amazing and very cheap to get into compared to clubs in Leeds. We very rarely pay entry for anywhere. SU club nights are very often and very cheap too. Societies are awesome and there's so much to do.
Indie musicians play a lot at the Octagon centre too if you're interested. I saw Declan McKenna last year which was really cool.
