SFE Open university course-full time hours- disabled student eligible for ML- SSL

Hi. I ve been awarded 10544 and at the award letter it says 4461 should be disregarded when calculating income for dwp. I’m on zero income and am disabled.
When I googled it it says this amount is special support loan. But then when I go on government site it shows as with the ssl it would be round 12k so I’m confused.
What is maximum for disabled student eligible for ML as studying online due to disability- all online courses go through part time kin application even if they are actually full time- I do study 120 credits

Hi there,

Have you been awarded the Special Support Loan and can you see that on your Notification of Entitlement? The Maintenance Loan with the Special Support Loan should be £12,019 for the 2025/26 academic year.

Thanks, Drew

On the award it’s 10544 and on the bottom it says about 4461 of maximum award being disregarded. It really confused me. So if that’s the amount I haven’t been awarded ssl? I have been granted mL due to remote studies as I’m basically house bound due to disability.
I am on UC, I have dependant child- she’s recipient of DLA and am myself waiting for PIP assessment. Shouldn’t I receive SSL?

Hi there. Yes, so the £4461 is the Special support element of the Maintenance Loan, and this is the amount that is disregarded as income by the DWP. So, they would not take £4461 of the Maintenance Loan into account as income. Thanks Leah.
