Uni Accommodation Help - University of Sheffield

Hi! I'm currently in Year 13, with my UCAS almost ready to be submitted and am (almost) definitely going to be going to Uni of Sheff if I get an offer. When we went down for the open day, we were able to look at a couple of rooms, out of the blocks they had open.

I would most likely be staying in Ranmoor, but if not any accomodation in Endcliffe would also be good. I understand that there are several blocks to each one (eg Wimberry etc).
Is there much of a difference between each block? Is there any I should stay away from? (I am fortunate that the cost isn't TOO much of an issue, though I would still like it to be affordable!!)

I'd really appreciate it if there was anyone from the uni that could possibly share any pictures or sites where I could compare rooms (I think I'm leaning towards any of the ensuite ones, self-catered, but not studio).

Also, is the difference between the ensuite/deluxe ensuite actually worth it? I've seen a few mixed reviews!

Thankyou so much in advance!

Hi,

I am also in y13 and also thinking about uni of sheffield. I attended residential at uni of Sheffield this summer and we lived in endcliff village. Most of the rooms there are ensuite and for me, if i got to uni of Sheffield, I would stay in endcliff. Rooms are pretty nice but bathrooms (for ensuite) are quite small. and also there is a little lake and many green spaces around the blocks. Also kitchen in flats at endcliff is good. If moneys not a problem then i would choose ensuite deluxe as bathrooms in ensuite were quite small.

Currently I am on mentroing programme with uni of sheffield and could ask my mentor (who is uni fo sheffield student and lives in student accommodation) some question on accomodation if you want but please let me know before 17/12/25.

I hope that helps

I’m a current student, encliffe always seemed more active due to it being nearer the village shop and the edge, and with the big social green aswell. I’d edge more towards that than Ranmoor. Especially there a extra hill you have to walk up ( lazy ik but you already have enough hills in Sheffield to walk up )

Hi @Elephant_5151!

It's great that you're so keen on Uni of Sheffield after visiting for your open day! I really loved it in Y13 and viewing it definitely sealed the deal for me too 🙂

I lived in Endcliffe in first year and I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't say there are any blocks to 'avoid' to be honest, they're all pretty similar (especially standard ensuite, which are virtually identical!). The blocks seem to change every year in terms of which are the most 'active', as of course the people change in each block each year. Location wise I guess you could take into consideration the proximity of the block to The Edge (Endcliffe) or The Ridge (Ranmoor) if you wanted to ideally be as close as possible to the study spaces.

I personally had a standard ensuite room in First Year, and none of my friends had a deluxe for me to be able to compare it to so I'm afraid I can't really help in terms of comparing them. However, you can compare the rooms via our virtual 360 tours here to help you get a bit more of an idea as to what would be your preference!: https://sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/360-degree-virtual-tours

I hope this helps! Do you have any more questions about the accommodation here? 🙂
