Motorola phones?

Hi

I'm thinking of getting the Motorola G06 as it has everything I need from my phone I think. My current phone is a Motorola E20 so I'm assuming the G06 will be better than my current phone why is showing signs is ready to retire and my budget it £70 as I don't have a lot of money for a new phone and this is just within my budget. I otherwise liked my current phone so was thinking of sticking with Motorola but I've seen some reviews saying it's got bad performance and Is very slow but these were tech reviews so not sure if they'd apply to a simple phone user. All I use my phone for other than calling and texting is browsing the web and things like online shopping , using Gmail , watching lots of YouTube videos and using YouTube music and social media mostly Facebook and instagram and facebook messenger and that's it i don't watch movies or play games ect.

Would the G06 be ok for my simple usage?

The G06 is just generally slow. It's an otherwise decent phone for under £100, but the processor they used is effectively 4 years old and it was a crappy low end one back then. In fact it's a basically the same processor as the one in your E20 with a minor increase to speed, and with it running a heavier operating system it will probably feel equally sluggish. There will be noticeable lag and frame rate drops even for basic usage. Besides that, it's got a 720p display (the same as your current E20 so at least it's not a downgrade) and is missing 5G connectivity, which is a pretty stark omission in 2025.

For £80ish I'd get the Poco M7 while it is on offer at Amazon. Generally quite a similar phone, sharing the same 720p screen as a drawback but with a far more powerful processor that will handle basic tasks much better, as well as 5G networking. It doesn't have NFC, but considering you're used to not having it on your E20 I'd consider that less of a drawback than the G06's more significant shortcomings.

Alternatively if you can stretch to £100 you can get the Samsung Galaxy A16 which is a far more well rounded phone. £20 more gets you a substantially better display, solid performance, 5G networking and NFC. Considering YouTube is one of the thing you do the most with your phone, the move to a full 1080p AMOLED display would be worth the extra £20 by itself.

Hi I've been busy doing research on the Samsung A16 and I'm interested in this as well as the Motorola G06.

Seen a lot of reviews saying the A16 is rubbish and really really slow again not sure Taht would bother me I don't actually find my E20 slow.

I've been given a John lewis voucher for Christmas and could put it towards my new phone and including my voucher my new limit would be £140 and I could look at the A17 too. Not sure which to go for going to check out some YouTube reviews of both phones. I noticed lots of reviews seem to complain about the A series of Samsung phones being rubbish and saying only the S series are worth the money.

It's still a low end phone and in the grand scheme of the smartphone market will be considered slow, but it's about 50% faster than your current E20 and will probably be at least 40% faster than the chip in the G06 you're also considering. In the context of phones costing under £100, the Galaxy A16 is a decent performer.

If you can stretch to £140 at John Lewis, try and get a little bit stretchier and get the Motorola G56 for £159 while it's on Price Match. The selection of low end phones on there is generally poor, and this represents a meaningful jump in performance with all the key features that should be baseline expectations of a modern phone.

Although i havent tried the Motorola G06, i have had other Motorolas. Currently got a Motorola, although i may need a new one next year.
Nothing wrong with Motorola's so if you want one then id go for it. Are there any other Motorola's in your budget that might be worth considering as well?

Not all Motorolas, or the phones of any brand, are created equal. All manufacturers are capable of making fantastic phones or rubbish phones for their given price points, and the G06 leans closer to the latter.
