Re: Side hustles to make money as a year 12 student

Have you thought about offering services on local Facebook groups? Like tutoring, dog walking, doing chores for elderly neighbours etc. when I was in year 12, I had success getting a job when approaching local small businesses instead of larger chains.

Hey,
These are some great options for Year 12. A-levels can be demanding but sometimes a part-time job is what you need to purchase the equipment to help you succeed or afford daily life! While I was studying for A-levels I took on a couple different jobs to help me get ahead.

As you mentioned, tutoring and dog walking are great options. Additionally, car washes, babysitting, small Café jobs, serving food at pubs/cleaning and being a server at restaurants can earn you a decent amount! Certain chains like The Big Table Group happily hire 16+ to keep on budget. If you are personally struggling, have a talk to your sixth-form head and see if there are any bursaries/scholarships that can help you too.

Hope that helps,

Hey,

I definitely support the idea of approaching local small businesses; most of my friends who had part-time/weekend jobs during their A-Levels worked in bakeries, cafes or newsagents close to where they lived.

Tutoring is also a good option: if you got a good set of GCSEs or excel in a particular subject area, you could offer GCSE support for local students. Alternatively, 11+ tutoring is usually in high demand - although you'll likely need to do some prep work - as is second language tutoring. I always loved tutoring when I was in Year 12/13 as the hours were guaranteed to fit around my schedule (most GCSE students aren't available from 8am - 4pm).

Best of luck to any Year 12's looking for work! 🙂
