Psychology application

I’m close to submitting my application to my unis of choice. Predicted grades are A*, B, B. Anything I should add to my personal statement to make it stand out more, any experience which will help or anything I should know before submitting?

Any tips or advice would be helpful, even any misconceptions about the course would be beneficial

I'm a psychology applicant too! Where did you apply to? I think my tips for personal statements is to make sure you include any supercurriculars that you have done (books, podcasts ect.) but always link it back to your own area of interest and your opinion on them

Hi there!

Psychology grad here - any extra reading of academic research, papers etc and what you went on to do and learn as a result are good things to include. For example, I talked about how I got interested in the work of Professor Simon Baron-Cohen on the relationship between empathising and systemising through school, which led me to google and read a few more of his studies and also watch a couple of TED talks on the topic which fed into my EPQ.

What you include will be personal to your own interests and there is more than one way of doing it - just try to focus not just on naming/listing things and really reflect on what it taught you and the rabbit holes it led you down.

I hope this helps!

I’m thinking of applying to Keele, Derby, Worcester and Stafford uni. And yeah, I’ll add in that I’ve attended a few talks held by the university of law about psychology and virtual work experience etc!

Hey there,

If you are close to submitting your application, this is a great time to refine your personal statement. With predicted grades of A*, B, B, you are in a strong position, so the focus should be on clearly explaining your motivation and future goals.

One of the most important things to include is what kind of job or career you would like to work towards in the future, even if that idea is not fully fixed yet. Admissions teams like to see that you have thought about where the course could take you and how it fits into your long term plans. You can talk about a specific role you are interested in or a sector you see yourself working in, and explain how the course will help you build the skills and knowledge needed for that path.

To make your statement stand out, reflect on any experience you have had, such as work experience, volunteering, part time work, or relevant projects. Focus on what you learned and how it relates to the course rather than listing everything you have done. It also helps to show that you understand what the course involves, including practical learning, placements, or applied assessments, rather than assuming it is all exams.

Keep your statement personal, honest, and focused on your journey so far and where you want to go next. That clarity and reflection often make the biggest difference.
