How does replying to unis work on UCAS?

Since the deadline to reply to offers on UCAS is on the 6th of May and exams can be between May-June, how are you ment to reply to offers? If you say yes to one of them and dont get the grades what happens, and what happens to your other offers?

Hello there,

UCAS explains the process clearly here: https://www.ucas.com/applying/after-you-apply/types-of-undergraduate-offers/replying-to-your-offers

Even though exams take place after the UCAS reply deadline, most university offers are conditional, meaning they depend on you achieving certain grades.

When replying, you’ll need to choose:

One firm choice (your first choice)

One insurance choice (your backup)

All other offers are automatically declined.
Usually, your firm choice will have higher entry requirements than your insurance choice (though this isn’t always the case). This means that if you miss your firm offer, you may still meet the conditions of your insurance offer.

On results day:

If you meet the conditions of your firm, you’ll be accepted there.

If you miss your firm offer but meet your insurance offer, you’ll be accepted by your insurance university.

If you don’t meet the conditions for either, you’ll be able to enter Clearing to find a course that will accept your results: https://www.ucas.com/applying/after-you-apply/clearing-and-results-day/what-is-clearing

There is no guarantee which universities or courses will be available in Clearing (including courses you may have previously declined), as this depends on where places are still available.

I hope that helps clarify things!
