QMUL or Nottingham for Law?

I've received offers from QMUL and Nottingham. Rankings suggest QMUL Law is higher ranked, but I've seen people say online that QMUL isn't that reputable. I'm having difficulties deciding between QMUL and Nottingham, as I'd love to live in London, but if Nottingham opens more doors, then I'd rather make the pragmatic choice.

Ignore rankings, they don't give the full picture. Queen Mary is certainly reputable for law and it opens many doors - lots of law students I know at QMUL have got internships and other types of work experience in many places. This might also be the case in Nottingham but not being a student there, I wouldn't know. The thing though, is that law in this country is very London-centric, so by the mere virtue of being in London I suspect you'll have more opportunities and be able to network more.

I would do more research still, obviously, because Nottingham I also understand to be a very good place to study, but just don't be so quick to disregard Queen Mary. It gets a lot of hate online mostly for being a new addition to the Russell Group and being at the bottom of it, but since that has absolutely zero impact on your student experience or on your future prospects as a lawyer, I would just ignore the online hate.

It is often said on this forum that being in London gives students some sort of huge benefit because the major law firms are located there, and there will be a host of networking opportunities open to those students. That doesn't really hold water. London students don't get to mooch over to Latham & Watkins, grab a coffee with a partner or two, secure a training contract and then be back in time for afternoon lectures. Nor will you be high-fiving silks and judges in the Pret on the Strand, and picking-up mini-pupillages over a shared croissant.

By all means study in London if you want to be in that city, and are attracted by a particular institution. But don't make your choice based on some perceived benefit associated with its location.
