MSc in Speech and Language

Hi guys, I'm hoping to apply for a masters in speech and language therapy, currently I'm looking into Leeds and Manchester. As I have started working on my PS I'm getting a bit freaked out with how competitive the programs are and I worry I don't have enough experience. I have shadowed two slts in public and private clinics recently as well as speaking with three other slts to learn about the job.I have done some volunteering with elderly people in the past. Should I apply or would i need professional experience to be in with a chance or more consistent voluntary experience? I hold a first class honours degree in psychology will this help significantly? I know I am able for the course its just disheartening hearing about people with more experience than me getting rejected. Any insights would be greatly appreciated

Hi! There’s a specific thread for SLT, probably best for you to ask there

But you don't know why the people with more experience than you were rejected. It could be due to not meeting the entry requirements, a poor interview, etc. Your shadowing and volunteering experiences look fine. If you've also worked in any other public-facing roles (supermarket, cafe, charity shop, etc.), then you can also include this. In your PS reflect on what you learned from these experiences and try to relate them to the NHS values and 6 Cs.

Have a look at the PS advice for other AHP courses on the UCAS website:
