but i wanted to study a chemistry related thing at uni maybe go into research . i thought about chem eng for a while but i don't know how to properly revise for physics - i do past papers but some key concepts i just can't understand. also i was going to either do higher biology/computing and take chemistry but i genuinely
need help in general just to see where i can go from my results what subjects i need to take next year , courses available and how to revise.

Hey. I'm also in S5, and whilst the only subject I have in common is English, feel free to ask me if you want any advice (I'm predicted an A).

Obviously, I can't help you with any of your other subjects, I can say that there's more than enough time to turn things around.

While this was for Nat 5, not Higher, last year I managed to go from failing my maths prelim to get an A1 in the final exam. It took a lot of effort, but it was definitely possible. Considering you've achieved B's and a C in your prelims so far, it's more realistic that you could improve in-between now and your final exams.

Finally, if you haven't already heard of the Dynamic Maths website, I recommend checking it out. It has every Scottish past papers split into topic for Nat 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher maths.

As cheesy as it sounds, a lot of improvement is about confidence and believing in yourself.

I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask me. 😊

No problem! I'm doing Jekyll and Hyde and a film, but last year I did MacCaig poetry. So whilst I can't help specifically with what you're doing, I can always give you some advice to do with novels and poetry.

hey im applying for chemical engineering!! 🙂
honestly taking advH maths in s5 is SO impressive!
your results are perfectly fine, its normal to do worse in prelim and improve in the exams!
although im crashing higher physics in s6, i use the physics academy on youtube.
his videos helped me understand the electricity unit alot more, im still pretty bad at it but im improving!!

dont be put off chemical engineering because of your physics, the only university in scotland that requires higher physics for it is aberdeen (At a B)
edinburgh university requires nat 5 physics at a B, and strathclyde doesnt require it at all

Thank you so much for the words of confidence ,for english are you doing the great gatsby and or duffy

Hey, I did gatsby last year so feel free to ask any questions. Also, prelims do not determine your final grade under any circumstances. Schools will often create harder than average prelims to prepare pupils and studying for exams is a lot more difficult in the middle of the school year rather than at the end with the benefit of exam leave.

Hey i got a's in physcis and english and am doing maths right now - first of all doing advh maths in s5 is a huge achievment and will defintely make you stand out compared to others. To revise physics i recommend doing past papers and watching the physics academy - try and understand this subject properly rather than just studying it for the sake of it. You have plenty of time to understand it, ask teachers as well. For English, practise all the RUAE you can, and for essays memorize an introduction - sorry for bad grammar hope this helps!

Following up on my earlier point, I recommend you check out my answers in the "2025-2026 Higher English group discussion" or in any other recent forums asking about Higher English. I've given out lots and lots of detailed, in-depth advice, including for both of your English texts.

Thank you so much I will check out the YouTube account tyyyy

Have you had your papers back? Use them to analyse which topics are:
RED need to be relearned
AMBER part marks - these are the topics to focus on first
GREEN full or nearly full marks - keep these ticking over

Hey! I'm in S5s too got 5 A's in my prelims (I do higher chem and physics along with engineering, English and Maths). I can provide a few study tips and resources if you'd like. For Physics I recommend making notes/flashcards right after, looking over consolidation (achieve, BBC bitesize) and then past papers. Everytime you get a PPQ wrong right out why (I recommend going by topic for these) and read over these notes right before a test/preli.
