Opinions on my choices

Hi, I've received four of my five offers and at this point I'm starting to make my final decisions so I was wondering if anyone from my university choices or doing the degrees I'm applying for can give me a personal insight into their own experiences

LJMU - Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice

Wrexham University - Criminal Psychology

Manchester Metropolitan University - Forensic Psychology

University of Chester - Criminology and Psychology

Edge Hill - Criminology and Psychology

Hi @Spidersloth34

We have student reps in the Forensics and Criminal Justice side of your course who you can speak to about their experiences. We use a platform called Unibuddy, where you can message them directly: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-students/chat-to-a-student

If you’ve received an offer from us, you can also log in to the Applicant Hub and book onto an applicant day. This is a great way to find out more about your chosen course, university facilities, and life in Liverpool: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/visit-us/applicant-days

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Hi @Spidersloth34

Congratulations on your offer at Manchester Met! You will soon receive an invite to book onto one of our Applicant Visit Days in the Spring term. They're always worthwhile attending as it will help you decide whether Manchester Met is right for you. You'll be able to chat with the course academics, meet current students, attend a taster session, view accommodation and visit the Student Life Fair. Visiting campus is important as it will help you get a feel for the university and our forensic psychology course.

You can chat with some of our current students on our Ambassador Chat Platform. There is a current psychology student on there, so whilst they are not studying your specific course, they will be able to give you an idea of studying at our School of Psychology as well as what it's like to be a Manchester Met student. There is also digital content on there created by our students that shows you what life is like studying at our university and in the city of Manchester.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hope this helps,
Mel 😊

Hi @Spidersloth34

I can only relate to the university of Chester, but I studied there and it’s a brilliant university. The staff in the department are so supportive and the course is great. Outside of the department the student support staff are fabulous I can’t recommend them highly enough. Everything is covered in terms of well being, academic skills, financial advice, accommodation etc. the student union have some really proactive officers who organise lots of events.

The accommodation is good too! And although Chester’s a city it’s really homely and just altogether a nice place to be and uni to study at.

I’d really recommend visiting it for an open day and I’m sure you’ll agree when you visit it!
Good luck

Hi @Spidersloth34 ,

Congratulations on all of your offers!

I'm currently in my third year studying Psychology at Edge Hill so can share a bit about my experience.

Students will study a mix of Criminology and Psychology modules. Some are compulsory and others are optional, which means you can tailor the degree towards the areas you find most interesting. From my experience, the psychology department is very supportive and offer lots of opportunities to get involved and I've heard similarly positive things about the criminology department. Studying a joint degree allows you to benefit from both subject areas.

I've also had the opportunity to complete an internship in the psychology department, working as a research assistant in the BabyLab. This is something that's offered to second-year students and is a great way to gain some practical research experience.

Both psychology and criminology are based in the same building, with criminology on the first floor and psychology on the second floor. This is where most lectures, seminars and staff offices are located. The psychology floor has a variety of labs that students can take part in as participants or research assistants, while the criminology floor is shared with law and criminal justice and includes facilities such as a moot court room.

Your timetable is made up of a mix of lectures and seminars across both subjects. As you progress through the degree, you'll have more choice over your modules, allowing you to focus on areas you enjoy most.

Offer holder days will be running in the new year. which are great opportunities to visit the university if you haven't already, speak to lectures, view accommodation and explore the campus.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask! You can also find more information on the Edge Hill website, including opportunities to chat with current students.

Good luck with your decisions!
