UCAS Options(Pharmacy)

So I've sent my application off but I'm feeling a bit conflicted about my 5th choice. I applied to DMU for Pharmacy which like a 3 hour drive and about 4 hours (with at least one change) on the train. However, I kind of want to change it to Pharmacy with a foundation at Uni of Bath. The school has a better reputation and it would still be a safe option in terms of entry requirements. But, its like a 4+ hour drive and the train journey varies but from what I've seen it's around 4-5 hours (with 2-3 changes), and some cheaper tickets are saying 10 hours!

So, I'm stuck. Should I change DMU to Bath? Or just stick with what I've got.

First question... When did you submit your application?

Ok, you can still change.

Are coaches (National Express, Megabus) an option to either location?

Yes, for Leicester I think the shortest journey was like 4 hours and for Bath it’s like 5-6 minimum. Both have a few changes.

Honestly, just worried out practicality when moving to uni and bringing all my stuff, also the inconvenience of moving back and forth between home and uni.

I do have other closer/more convenient uni options of course, but I just wondered if it was worth considering Bath as well.

I did my undergraduate degree in York and my family home was in Somerset. Of course it's doable.

It's only available at Plymouth, not at Bath itself -
Pharmacy with Preparatory Year MPharm (Hons) at the University of Plymouth

Many students only travel 3 times a year to see their parents, so journey length is less important that accoundation costs and the commuting time from affordable accommodation into the university.

Hi there,

I'm currently a pharmacy student at Bath and my hometown is also 4/5 hours by train. I would say I only really travel home during the break periods and I'm really lucky with my parents being able to come and help me move in etc. There are also plenty of storage facility in Bath which you can leave your stuff if need be. Unfortunately University of Bath doesn't offer the foundation year whereas the same course but taught in Plymouth does offer the preparatory year. This may make your journey much longer as opposed to coming to Bath.

I would say think carefully about your two options but the important thing is the MPharm degree and then becoming qualified pharmacist.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions about the course, Bath or anything else, feel free to ask!
