Hi!

If you’re applying for uni halls, there will still be availability for various rooms in August. If it’s a private student accommodation, most rooms might be sold out in August since it’s second and third year students applying early as well.

Hi @doingresearch,

I hope you are well! I think it differs depending on what uni you are talking about. I know at LJMU they offer guaranteed accommodation to all first year students and it opens at around April time. However, not all unis offer guaranteed accommodation for first years so it will be different.

I would say yes there is a chance of you not getting the accommodation you wanted but if you are on the right site and ready for when the applications open for the accommodation then you will be just fine! I recommend finding out when it is that you need to apply for the accommodation by to get rid of the risk of you missing out on somewhere you wanted to stay! All the information regarding accommodation should be on the university's website and hopefully it includes some dates that you can write down to remember!

If you wait until August, you will likely be left with whatever options nobody else wanted (usually the most expensive studios or rooms very far from campus). Most universities open their accommodation portals months in advance, and they operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Don't risk it!

It's not correct that all unis operate a first-come, first-served basis. Even though you can apply in advance, many unis only allocate accommodation following results day when they know who has a place.

Based on my experience, even if you aren't sure of being accepted at the uni, you still apply for accommodation; it's first-come, first-serve situation.
