English lit or English lit with creative writing?

Would a single honours in lit be more marketable? I’m considering a career involving writing after uni (Journalism, editing etc), but I’m also considering A level teaching.

It’s probably worth looking into the different careers a bit more closely, and maybe the direction that is most appealing will help you decide on what qualifications you want to take: The path towards being a journalist is very different to working as a fiction writer, which is very different to working in publishing as an editor (and all of those are very different to working as a teacher). The ‘most marketable degree’ depends partly on what you intend to do with it. If it helps, I’m not aware of any path to jobs in those areas that specifically requires either an English lit. or a creative writing degree.

But don’t forget to take into account your own preferences. Perhaps you’d end up with a higher class of honours if you were able to study something were really enthusiastic about.
