Uni of Birmingham or Coventry for engineering?

I have applied to both universities for foundation year engineering wanting to do either mechanical or aerospace (mechanical and aerospace separately for Coventry, in Birmingham you choose after the foundation year).
Does anyone know which one has better facilities, employability, support in finding internships etc.? At first I guessed Birmingham was the obvious one due to it being a Russell group and having higher grade requirements and whatnot, but after looking at engineering-specific rankings and other things online I might have underestimated Coventry.
Could anyone give me more insight?

Coventry probably has the stronger connection to automotive and motorsports industries, it’s long been a feeder university to those industries.

Birmingham probably more well connected to other industries and probably has more research which brings with it more expertise, connections & facilities as well as research opportunities for their own students.

In the UK reputation isn’t typically a huge factor for graduate recruitment but internationally it plays a bigger role. If you are specifically interested in working in the automotive or motorsports industries id lean coventry if your interests are broader id look at Birmingham.

I don’t know anything about engineering but I’d guess employability it going to be better with Birmingham as it’s a Russell group.

Employability is great for uob simply due to being in a very large city and they've ranked number 1 in employer connections for the past few years now. Whilst it may be a broader range than engineering specific, i can say that the careers team are very helpful when it comes to getting support for internships, placements and grad schemes or even anything else. And being a Russell group it is true that they tend to have better research opportunities and funding for facilities

Hi there,

Coventry is well regarded as an excellent engineering university which is why i picked the course to study my integrated masters here in mechanical engineering. Whilst not a Russell group it does have some of the best engineering facilities, project and formula student teams so it is definitely not to be underestimated!

As for employability after graduation, Coventry greatly encourages placement years in industry during it's engineering degrees, and has great connections to many automotive and other engineering companies and sectors. These allow an excellent employment rate after graduation with many students returning to grad jobs in the same company as their placement.

I really recommend coming to visit an open day to see if it feels right for you! Here is a link to our open day information

Hope this helps
