What Games are on your Christmas List? 🎮

We asked our Games lecturers at University of Staffordshire which titles they’d be adding to their Christmas lists this year. The results are perfect if you’re looking for co-op fun, long-awaited releases, or something to sink hours into over the break.

Let us know what’s on your list 👇

🕷️ Hollow Knight: Silksong
Recommended by Sharon Coleclough
A game with a fascinating development journey. Evolving from a game-jam concept into something polished, accessible, and widely loved. Its lower price point also makes it easier for more players to jump in and enjoy.

🏁 Mario Kart / Sonic Racing
Recommended by Chris Headleand
A go-to for Christmas gaming. Packed with accessibility features, these are ideal if you’re playing with younger players, casual gamers, or anyone picking up a controller for the first time.

🚀 Sonic Cross Worlds & Metroid Prime 4
Recommended by Jaimie Ditchfield
One for franchise fans. Sonic Cross Worlds taps into a classic series, while Metroid Prime 4 is a long-awaited release, announced years ago and finally (hopefully!) ready to play.

🤝 Helldivers 2
Recommended by Jennifer Challenor
Perfect for playing with friends. Fully co-operative gameplay means you can work together rather than compete. Unless you want to keep score and go full epic battle mode.

🎼 Expedition 33
Recommended by Jay Vickers
A standout choice for its soundtrack alone. The score is a huge part of the experience and really elevates the game.

🕵️ 007
Recommended by Jamie Tranter
A fun, social game that’s ideal for group play. Great for gaming with friends or family. Exactly the kind of title that fits the Christmas vibe.

🎄 Student recommendation:
From our student community, @holly_2006_ recommends Five Nights at Freddy’s on Nintendo Switch. Perfect if you like your festive gaming with a side of horror 👻

Our academics are sharing more of their top games this Christmas over on TikTok - watch the series here.
