Can I drop 2 current A-Levels, make them AS Levels, and then pick two new ones?

I am in Year 12 right now doing Philosophy, Physics, Politics, and Criminology. I want to, after year 12, drop Politics and Criminology and instead do Maths and Further Maths to prepare for an undergrad course in Physics and Philosophy. I would do these topics for all of Year 13 and an extra year after that, (also gives me time to do extracurriculars or anything else which could help), then apply to where I want to go. To my knowledge, my school would allow this, I just want to know if there's any issues here I don't know about? I'm prepared to pay for exams and find somewhere to study after Year 13, so those aren't concerns for me. Thanks!

This is possible but does seem a slightly unconventional approach!
If i were you i would send your schools maths department an email and ask how much a level maths and further maths content have been covered in the last term. Some schools will only have really recapped gcse and introduced a bit of maths content in nearer maths so far. It really depends how your school teaches these 2. Theoretically if you were willing to put in the work you could switch to doing double maths or even just single maths after Christmas if your school will allow. If you switched to single maths you could take as further in year 13 for example. Just an option to think about 🙂
You could consider retaking year 12 with different subjects too if your wanted, or doing a levels over 3 years as schools are funded for this (albeit there is less funding for the additional year but it’s usually fine as some people retake a whole year anyway!) so you could do an additional year and take just maths and fm lessons and exams during that at school if your school will allow this.
Im in year 13 atm but i only did 2 subjects last year so i also do year 12 classes for a third subject this year- i will sit this a level a year after my other 2. These kind of arrangements can be possible but it depends on your school and also whether you’d want to apply to a top uni as this can be an issue for them (especially as you dont seem to have extenuating circumstances).

Hi there, from a university perspective I would recommend you arrange a meeting with your tutor / a senior member of your schools pot-16 (Sixth form/college) teaching team, they would be more than happy to advise you and would be able to give you the best and accurate information on any exams and subject changes.
Kind Regards,

Could you do maths in one year? May not need Further Maths and can be done the year after if required.

(I expect extracurriculars make very little difference for Physics other then at a few top universitas.)
