UK to rejoin the EU Erasmus scheme from 2027

Britain will be rejoining the European Union's Erasmus student exchange program in 2027, almost 6 years after leaving due to Brexit. The UK's contribution will be £570 million, which is 30% lower than the original default terms, but higher than the amount Britain paid while in the EU.

Although Brexit and its subsequent impacts have been a taboo topic in political circles (on both sides of the spectrum) until recently, general consensus indicates that Brexit has harmed Britain on many fronts, and perceptions of the EU have softened as of late.

What are your thoughts on rejoining Erasmus? How will this impact your goals of studying abroad, if you have the desire to do so? In what ways will this impact British universities as a whole?

Hi there,

I think the Erasmus student exchange programme is overall a good step for both UK and EU students in general. I know a bunch of people in my year who are interested in studying abroad and the UK rejoining helps with that.

That being said, I personally wouldn't mind it, but it is not my plan A.

However in regards to UK universities, it could be either good or bad. It would allow these unis to gain more academically gifted students from different parts of Europe, but it would raise the question, How many would these UK unis accept these students?

But only time will tell if this is a good or bad decision.
