UCAS application - will I get offers with the grades I am predicted?

I’ve finally sent my ucas application , these are the universities I’ve applied for psychology undergraduate degree
- Sheffield university (BBB- contextual)
- Durham university (BBB - contextual)
- Liverpool university (BBC- contextual)
- Lancaster university (BBB- contextual)
- Newcastle university (BBB- contextual)

My predicted grades are A in psychology C in chemistry C in biology -so also equivalent to a BBC

I know I’ve mainly applied for BBB but I don’t want to go to any other universities , and the acceptance rate is high for some of these, and since I’ve got free school meals, and live in a disadvantaged area i beleive I have a strong chance, also I’ve achieved an A* in EPQ and I have a strong personal statement , my GCSES are fine and meet all requirements, do you think I’ll get some offers?

Your problem is that both your core science subjects are Cs - and these are all competitive Universities that want specific grades and not UCAS points. You dont therefore meet any of their offer requirements - if they require BBB, then ACC does not fulfil this.

I would suggest that you have at least one choice that is far less competitive to ensure that you do actually get an offer, and that you have a more realistic Insurance choice. Look at Unis like Sussex, Plymouth, Nottingham Trent etc. They are far more likely to give you an offer and also far more likely to be forgiving if you miss your grades in August

I checked and the requirements say an A in one science subject and they include psychology , I have Liverpool as an insurance as I meet the requirements of BBC

You do NOT meet their entry requirements - ACC does not equal BBC. 'Equivalent' mash-ups only apply to Unis making offers in UCAS points and all of your Universities require 3 specific grades not points.

I’ve sent an email to both Sheffield and Lancaster and they do equivalents

How exactly was their reply worded - 'we would consider your application', or 'your predicted grades meet our entry requirements'?
Hi, make sure you are certain how admissons have responded to your email. As has been said, will you meet them or just considered? Ideally you would want to have an insurance choice in case you don't get in!

If you have any other university questions I'd be happy to help.

Best of luck,
Zak

Do any of these courses offer a foundation year that you could apply to instead?
With predicted grades of ACC you should really have a maximum of 2 choices at or above BBC. You should then have 2 choices at BCC and one below this. Your choices are all aspirational so you run the risk of 5 rejections and being forced to go through clearing which means you may not get into a uni or course that you would prefer and you may be left without accommodation as well.
Sheffields course is based on ucas points so this is fine for you to apply to as a solid/safe choice.
Durham is an aspirational choice for you and you run the risk of a rejection on the basis of your grades, it’s fine to have one choice like this though. They have a foundation year with specific wp criteria which is very competitive to get into.
Liverpool is a solid/safe choice as you are contextual and also you should get an offer of BCC due to your high EPQ grade.
Lancaster and Newcastle are both an aspirational choices for you so be prepared for a rejection, especially if they have a decent number of applicants. They do not seem to have a foundation year.
If you didnt get an offer from any of your aspirational choices then you’d have to firm either Sheffield or Liverpool. If you firmed Liverpool you would not have an insurance choice. Sheffield do offer a foundation year program too btw.

Hi @El3mi ,

It's great to see you have sent in your application. 😊

Those are some great universities, but as it's been pointed out, they are all above your predicted grades. There is a chance you may receive offers, but this really depends on the course and how competitive it is, but those meeting or exceeding the requirements are very likely to be prioritised.

I would highly recommend re-evaluating your options and changing at least one to a safety option. You can substitute one of your five options within 14 days of submitting your application. A safety options should preferably be slightly below your predicted grades in order to increase your likelihood of being accepted. I recommend going through all your choices and picking the one you are least likely to want to attend.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
