DMU for Pharmacy

So I’ve just received an interview invite from DMU for pharmacy. It’s my first interview offer and so I was feeling quite happy. But I’ve seen a lot of speculation online about DMU and Leicester in general and now I’m feeling a bit unsure. Is DMU really that bad? I mean I really only put it as a fifth option since I couldn’t think of anywhere else. Is it worth changing it? I still have two weeks to change it. I was thinking maybe Uni of Portsmouth?

Congrats on the interview that’s a big deal and a good sign, so try not to let online comments take that away from you.
DMU isn’t a “bad” uni. It’s not top-ranked like some Russell Group unis, but pharmacy is a regulated course, so the core teaching and qualification are standard across universities. What matters most is how you engage with the course and the placements you get.

A lot of the negativity online is about Leicester as a city or people’s personal experiences, which can vary a lot. Many students are perfectly happy at DMU.

If you’re considering Portsmouth, it does tend to rank a bit higher overall, so it’s fair to compare. But since you already have an interview at DMU, I’d definitely go to it and see how you feel before changing anything.

In short: don’t panic getting an interview is something to be proud of.

Hi,

Congratulations on your interview invite! As mentioned above, pharmacy is a regulated course by the GPhC, so where you study doesn’t affect your future progression. What’s most important is choosing a course and university where you feel you’ll thrive and enjoy the experience. I’d recommend visiting the campus, the city and talk to current students if you can.

Hope this helps,

Thank you for you’re response. I have decided to stick with DMU . At the time I had told some people that I had an interview, and they made a few comments that made me feel unsure. I look forward to attending my interview next month!
