A level predicted grades

Hi, I’m a year 13 student applying for computer science. My first choice was Oxford in year 12 but my AS results didn’t go as planned because a few of my exams were lost by the school. I’m resitting these lost exams in May alongside my A-level papers. I’m predicted A*A* for computer science and English. I also got my maths prediction today after getting a C (one mark off a B) in my mock exam. They’ve refused too predict me anything higher than a C. I need an A* to apply to my top uni choices, which are Warwick,KCL, Imperial. I feel like my only option is to take a gap year and focus on securing the grades this year. However, I’m unsure what to do during this gap year or any other options at the moment.

Firstly, why are you testing the AS exams? As it is one extra stress alongside the a levels that may affect how well you do in those. Also have you looked at some other unis for computer science? You may find that the unis you are aiming for aren’t a good fit for you and others may be better. Just some thoughts. If you go somewhere still with a good reputation and get a solid degree and you are happier it may well turn out better than going to one of the ones you have listed. I would also consider joining the Facebook forum group WIWIKAU (what I wish I knew about Uni) as they have loads of good advice.

Have you put in a complaint about them loosing your exams as that's very unprofessional and is essentially a waste of your time to continue studying and stressing for another exam. Could you negotiate a higher predicted grade for maths with the argument that you had to spend unnecessary time advising for exams you've already taken due to their negligence and so this affected your maths results.

Hope this helps and I would definitely make a complaint if I was you.

Thankyou for your advice, I’m going to complain as I feel I’ve been given no support especially under the circumstances of them loosing my exams and making me sit in year 12 classes alongside year 13. Just wondering if a gap year would be the best approach after securing the grades? Will look at other unis as well
