applying without one predicted grade

i’m a student taking an additional a level separately. i achieved 3 a levels last year, i was one grade away from my top choice and didnt like my insurance so i thought it’d be worth a try to take another subject.

anyway i took mock exams at a private centre to get a predicted grade. i don’t have the grade back yet but ik i did really bad because i only had about two months to teach myself all the content (didn’t finish covering it all :frown:) and barely had time to practise it (on top of working + studying for admissions test).

would it be worth just applying anyway without a predicted grade? or would it just be auto rejected? it’s a competitive course so i guess it probably would be, my other ucas options are lower/the same as my achieved grades though though.

idk if there’s anything else i can do to try again for a predicted grade it’s a bit late now. i doubt the centre would predict me higher than the mock grade cuz that’s all the know about my abilities. if anyone has any advice id realllyy appreciate it

Hi @indierokkers

I can only speak for Manchester Met so it's worth checking with the specific university you are hoping to apply to as different unis can have different admissions policies. At Manchester Met, if someone submitted an application without predicted grades, our Admissions team would tend to contact the referee, if it is a teacher/personal tutor, to ask for them. We usually advise such applicants to email the relevant Admissions team with the reasons as to why they don't yet have predicted grades and we can save this information to their application. Either way, we would still consider an application from you.

It is also worth mentioning that at Manchester Met we will only consider a maximum of three A-levels towards the required grade or UCAS tariff points requirement, so it is worth also checking this with the particular uni you wish to apply to.

I hope this helps,
Mel 😊

Hi @indierokkers

When it comes to four A-levels, many universities will only consider the best three, therefore if you truly believe you have not achieved what you desire in your exam then it should be fine to submit without the predicted. If the university wants the grade, they should get into contact about it.

Additionally, if you are struggling with the additional A-level, it may be worth dropping it to focus on getting excellent grades on the other three. University will favour 3 great A-level results over 4 mediocre results.

If you are still concerned over this, contact the universities admissions team directly to ask this query. Their contact information should be present on the university website.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Lancashire)
