Uni choices

Hey guys, I have recently received all 5 university offers from Durham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Falmouth and YSJ (as my backup) could anyone please who maybe has been/ is at these universities please let me know what you think of them, or give me some things to consider? At the moment I’m not fussed about which one I go to as I quite like them all. Any help is appreciated!

Which course? How do your predictions/achieved grades meet their requirements?

You should be invited to Offer Holder visit days - these usually happen in the Spring Term and are an excellent opportunity to look around more critically, ask questions and think carefully about the reality of being at each Uni. You dont have to make this decision for months yet - so don't rush into it.

Hi! I’m currently studying at Falmouth and I love it! It‘s definitely a different vibe to the others, in that it‘s a small town, rather than a city, so a lot quieter - so it’ll depend what vibe you’re looking for! It’s a creative uni too which gives a really nice artsy culture to the place! What course have you applied for? I think it’s definitely worth visiting to see which uni will suit you best

Hey!

Congrats on getting all 5 offers, that’s such a good position to be in 👏

Honestly, if you can, I’d really recommend going to open days, and depending on the uni and course, seeing if they offer taster days too. They make such a difference. I was completely split between three unis when I was applying, and I thought I liked them all equally….then I went to the open day at ARU and my decision was basically made before I’d even left campus.

There was just something about it. I got a real feel for the uni, the course, the facilities, the teaching style, and the overall vibe, and I was completely sold. No amount of online research or rankings compared to actually being there in person and imagining myself as a student.

Open days are great because you can talk to current students and lecturers, see where you’d actually be spending your time, and ask the questions you didn’t even realise you had. You also get a sense of whether the uni feels supportive and like somewhere you’d be comfortable, which matters way more than people think.

They’re also a brilliant excuse to explore the surrounding city or town. Walk around, grab food, check out transport, and really ask yourself if you can imagine living there day to day. Sometimes the city is what sells it, or what puts you off, and that’s important to know now rather than later.

It’s totally okay to feel unfussed at this stage, that usually just means you need to experience them properly. Once you do, one often just clicks. Trust your gut, it’s usually right!

Hopefully others who’ve been to those unis can give you their experiences too, but definitely get yourself to some open days if you can. They’re honestly game-changers!!

Good luck! Sophie 🙂
