Are my GCSES enough for medicine/dentistry?

I'm in year 12 so I can't comment much on my a levels but I got 998888777 in my GCSEs. I know in comparison to most my grades are okay but they seem relatively low compared to most applicants for med/dent. I'm looking into HYMS, Uni of Manchester, Uni of Sheffield and Newcastle University but these aren't set in stone
Hi @TheLittleGhost!

Congrats on your fantastic GCSE results! Hope you're enjoying Y12 so far.

For Medicine here at Uni of Sheffield, GCSE requirements are as follows: 5 GCSEs at grade 7/A, with at least grade 6/B in Maths, English Language and the science subjects (Dual Award Science also acceptable). I found this info here for your reference. As part of the Medicine selection process, applicants aren't ranked by their academic record, so 'there is no advantage for students who exceed the minimum academic entry requirements'. You can find out more about the Medicine selection process here. 🙂

For Dentistry here at Uni of Sheffield, our website states the following in regards to GCSEs: 'Most applicants who secure an interview have a minimum of 6 A grades or Grade 7s at GCSE which include Maths, English Language and Science subjects'. You can find more info about this here.

I'm in my final year of Medicine here at Uni of Sheff and have really enjoyed the course so far! It's been really hands-on with patient interaction right from the get-go. Equally, my friends who do Dentistry here really enjoy it! If you're unsure about which course/ Uni is for you I'd definitely recommend going to some open days and speaking to students on those courses to get a better feel for what best suits you!

If you have any questions about Medicine/ Dentistry (or Uni of Sheff more generally) please ask away! 😊
