Opinions on AQA A Level Computer Science?

I don't think it's very useful, let me explain

Most universities do not require A level comp-sci at all to study it at uni, with some notable exceptions, most will just request 'maths and one other science subject', this is because some sixth forms do not offer comp-sci as an A-level, so a lot of unis don't make it a requirement,

also, I have a personal hatred for AQA, but as someone who has taken AQA comp-sci at A-level, I haven't found it to be useful in much of anything.

To make things worse, a lot of unis don't accept comp-sci as a science subject, unless you're specifically applying for a comp-sci or comp-sci adjacent degree. Also, since most unis don't require it, you'll be taught all of A-level comp-sci at uni anyway for a degree.

You also don't learn programming to a suitable degree either, not covering event-driven which is rather important with programming, the furthest you get is OOP, and you can generally learn to program without doing A-level comp-sci (also, AQA theory is absolute hell)

you can take it for fun, but if you're looking for mileage for a particular A-level, it's well behind other STEM subjects, notably chemistry and maths, both of which feature in almost all STEM course requirements (physics if you're looking at any kind of engineering)

anyways, that's just my 2 pence on it
